A coordinated operation by Louisiana’s Department of Revenue and Bureau of Investigations has resulted in felony charges for two state residents.

The feds accuse Stanley Borone Brumfield and Andre Jawaan Smith of running a scheme to steal hundreds of thousands of dollars in state income tax refunds.
The Louisiana Department of Revenue took to X last week with news of the charges:
According to the Louisiana body, Smith sent fabricated withholding tax forms to the US government’s tax collector, claiming gambling winnings of $741,978.
The feds stated in a news release that Smith claimed an unlawful state income tax refund of over $17,000 “based on the tax withholding calculated for the phony winnings.”
Brumfield, meanwhile, is accused of sending a faked withholding form claiming gambling winnings of $1,225,000 from Baton Rouge and Tampa, Florida casinos.
According to the feds, investigators stated the casinos in question had no records of the pair’s wins.
