Norman money

If you read Part 1, Part 2, and Part 3 of my World Series of Poker (WSOP) updates, you will know that I made it to Las Vegas, struggled in the Seniors but then managed to bag at the first attempt in the Millionaire Maker.

I had an interesting table draw with Norman Chad to my immediate left

After this, I played daily tournaments at the WSOP the following day, notching up two near bubbles and one min cash. The following day, I decided to take my first day off, kind of. I was invited to the Global Poker event in the iconic PokerGo studios, which included a freeroll. I had an interesting table draw with Norman Chad to my immediate left, my plus one June Jenkins to his left, and my long term friend Kevin Williams to her left. It was the first time June and I have actually been at the same table, and she has always said that when the day did come she would enjoy crushing my soul.

That’s hard to do when someone flops quads as I did against her. The other highlight was winning 20 bucks from Norman Chad. Norman gave us all a piece of paper and asked us to guess how many McDonalds fast food restaurants there are in the world. I guess 26625 which was about sixteen thousand under the actual number, but everyone else way overestimated so I was the closest. I’ve been told Norman money is particularly lucky so let’s see how the rest of the trip goes.

Milly Maker Day 2

I had a healthy if below average stack at the start of the day. It instantly became a lot less healthy when I lost over a third of it first hand with Ace-King against Jacks. That left me having to navigate the bubble with a short stack, something I managed to do.

I was wearing a new shirt June bought for me. Nice shirt, and she assured me it was guaranteed lucky. There was only one problem: it didn’t fit. I was hoping nobody would notice as I surreptitiously opened a few buttons, but the table wag Thomas Zanot (who recently won $6m playing Pai Gow and then ripped the 1 million mystery bounty) was having none of it.

That shirt doesn’t fit you anymore.”

Which got the whole table talking about it. At one point the floor was called to confirm that my shirt didn’t fit (the floor lady very diplomatically declined to do so). Thomas bust near the bubble and was replaced by Olga Lermolcheva of “Game of Gold” fame. She was super short at that point (4 bbs) but I helped her cause by losing a flip to her. Olga is a very witty charming presence at the table and I’m glad she capitalised on the won flip and ended up running deep. I on the other hand circled the drain through a pay jump before busting (KJo versus KJo).

So far this trip the same pattern has been constantly repeating: I build a stack in the early going (mostly without showdowns), lost a few flips around the money, and end up busting shortly into the money. There are worse patterns, but hopefully I can break out and start winning flips or get the sustained run good in one tournament you need to run truly deep.
